ElevenLabs vs Murf vs Descript voices: what each one's own pages promise
Three ways to get a voice onto a timeline, compared feature for feature, with the reviewers' caveats.
Three tools on this page can put a voice on your timeline. They come at it from different directions. ElevenLabs and Murf start from text. Descript starts from a recording and lets you regenerate words in a cloned voice.
Below, each one is reduced to what its own pages promise, followed by what independent reviewers flagged. The fair comparison is the one you run yourself: same paragraph, same pace, listened to back to back.
ElevenLabs The voice track
Write the script, pick or clone a voice, and direct the delivery with tags in the text.
| Voice library | 17,500+ voices, or clone or design one | source |
|---|---|---|
| Languages | 90+ with Eleven v4 | source |
| Direction | Audio tags like [laughs] or [whispers] in the script | source |
| Editor | Studio: edit the narration by editing the text | source |
| Dubbing | Dubbing v2, 90+ languages, in a clone of the original voice | source |
| Also makes | Sound effects and music | source |
What independent reviewers report: TechRadar calls it an excellent choice for creators who need high-quality narration, but says voices can still sound slightly robotic in highly emotional speech. Zapier lists life-like voices and a large multilingual library, with occasional inconsistent output, especially for sound effects.

Murf AI The narration alternative
A voiceover studio with pitch, speed and emphasis controls, plus dubbing and a Canva add-on.
| Voice library | 200+ voices across 35+ languages | source |
|---|---|---|
| Controls | Pitch, speed and intonation | source |
| Model | Gen2: tone, pacing and emphasis controls | source |
| Cloning | Clone your voice for voiceovers | source |
| Dubbing | Instant dubbing in 40+ languages | source |
| Works in | Canva add-on | source |
What independent reviewers report: TechRadar says it makes clear voiceovers quick and easy, but some voices sound more realistic than others and it can't match a real voice actor for deep emotion. Zapier notes dubbing and the Canva integration, but says only some voices in the library sound good.
